Blog Mammas - I need some advice

Gianna has been sleeping through the night since she was probably 2 months old but last week she started waking up at either 2, 3 or 4am. I have been going in and feeding her but it is really taking a toll on me. I am so exhausted! I was thinking about this yesterday and it seems that if she was sleeping through the night before there is no reason she needs to be eating more now. I put her down somewhere between 6:30 and 7:15 every night. Then I do a dream feed about 3 hours later and she drinks almost an entire bottle. She used to sleep until 6 or 7 a.m. but for the past 9 days I have been getting up and feeding her in the early morning. Happy Child Healthy Sleep Habits says it is still normal for them to wake up and feed twice a night. But she was sleeping through the night and I am afraid I am allowing her to form a really bad habit of waking up. She will be 6 months on the 16th.

I might let her cry it out tonight. Maybe go in and give her a binky or rock her back to sleep??? Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Diet Soda

Lately, I have been working on not drinking as much diet soda. I usually drink one diet Pepsi or diet Dr. pepper per day. I have been contemplating giving it up completely because of a couple of reasons.
  1. I heard it gives you cellulite (Which is pretty much a lost cause at this point for me)
  2. I have heard it actually makes you more hungry - therefor you consume more calories
  3. I know sugar substitutes are not good for me and neither is all the junk that makes diet soda taste so good.
  4. Have you ever seen a coke clean a penny??? Think of what that is doing inside of me.

I know there are some faithful bloggers who are die hard Diet Coke fans. Yes, the three of you know who you are:)

So what do you think? Keep drinking it or give it up?

What do you eat for breakfast?

What do you eat for breakfast? Are you a rut eater or do you mix it up? I know my mom has two cups of black coffee and eats half an apple and a handful of nuts every morning. Then about two hours later she has a piece of toast with cottage cheese and Cinnamon and sugar. I know that sounds gross but if you like cottage cheese it actually really good. My sister on the other hand has cereal almost every morning and is a non coffee drinker. For some reason I think it's inter sting to see what everyone else eats for breakfast. So what do you eat?

I am all over the place - one cup of coffee with organic 1/2 and 1/2 and some sugar and then either:
yogurt with wheat germ,
toast with peanut butter, banana and honey
oatmeal
banana pancakes
cereal
two eggs....

Gianna loves to eat

I realize more and more how much I miss being part of the blogging community. I love connecting this way with friends and yet it seems to be the task that haunts me. I think if I had a laptop it would actually make it much easier. Our computer is upstairs so if Mr. F is watching TV I like to be with him and so I don't want to go blog.

For the next four months though Mr. F is working the graveyard shift so my evening time will be free. Last week was his first week working graveyard and it was hard for me. It really gave me quite a bit of compassion for single moms. I think a big factor is also that I am spoiled! My husband does so much in regards to caring for Gianna. We are a team and we take care of her together. So when he is out of the picture for 3 or 4 days straight I get really overwhelmed.

Gianna turned 5 months this week. She is changing so much every day. This morning she rolled from her tummy to her back, she is grabbing everything in site and she is figuring out how to use her hands. She loves to grab my hair and my lips and sucks/chews on anything she can find. She wakes up with a smile and has started screaming out in joy.

At the end of January we introduced her to some baby oatmeal and she really like it. I am feeding her once a day and this week she had some organic sweet potatoes. She dives forward for each bit and just slurps is all down. She has started wearing bibs daily because of the excessive drooling from teething.

She brings us so much joy. Other than her my life is pretty boring. I am still working selling health insurance, trying to get back in shape and trying to keep our house running. I am home each night by 7 because Gianna is out by 7:15. If anyone wants to catch up on the phone I am free:)

Hopefully you will start hearing from me on a more regular basis. Here are some new picture of Gianna who by the way does not look like me at all. She is totally her dad!

Turkey Bacon vs Pork Bacon

*So last night I was watching Oprah and saw that she was actually the one who shed light on this bacon controversy. I guess my hubby's co-worker had just seen the show because he was the one who told him to check the labels*

So lately I have really been into bacon the thick kind that is extra crispy. I usually buy turkey bacon though because I thought it was healthier but look what I found out. Turkey bacon (Oscar Meyer) has the same amount of fat per piece as the Costco maple bacon, turkey bacon has 80mg more sodium and 50 more mg of cholesterol! What the heck!!!! Turkey bacon is out.

My Life

I know an update is needed and so while Gianna (Gigi) is asleep on the couch with the hair dryer running I will attempt to blog. Yes, it has been one of those days where Gigi is very tired and yet she can't seem to fall asleep and so I had to resort to running the hair dryer to calm her down. She wasn't crying or even really upset but she was miss cranky pants and when I tried to soothe her to sleep she would just whine and struggle. I need her to take a good nap today because I want to her sleep great tonight and I need a moment to myself. So I pulled out the hair dryer and instantly she was calm and feel asleep. I love love my hairdryer.

Three weeks ago I went back to work part time. My first week was really hard because we had just gotten back from a trip and Gianna decided to stop sleeping her wonderful 9 hours a night and instead to wake up three times a night. Also, although I did not feel super sad I know it was a hard change for me to be away from her. I am unbelievably blessed though because Mr. F watches her Mon and Tues and then my mom and mother-in-law both take her a half day. I am working 4 days a week Monday - 8 hours, Tue- 4, Wed- 4 and Thur- 4 or something like that. Sometimes I am in the office for only 2 or 3 hours depending on if I have client meetings. The biggest change for me going back to work is that my salary was reduced to almost nothing. I mean really let's just say to get paid my salary I only need to work 6 hours a week. It's a big financial change for us and we are not sure how it will all work out but at the same time it's a really good move for my career. It's allowing me to focus on sales and it's giving me more drive to sell. This week I made my biggest sale to date. It was super exciting! It has been exhausting working part time and being a mom. I am so thankful I don't work full-time. I know a lot of people really love working but for me I could take it or leave it.

Gianna is so much fun. She is smiling non-stop, cooing, squealing, giggling and trying to sit up. Over the past week she has started to grab her toys and put them in her mouth. She will bite on anything she can get her hands on. The doctor says she is not teething but it sure seems like it. She sleeps from 7pm to 7am on most nights with one dream feed. She is starting to wear bibs because the drooling has become quit plentiful. This Sunday she is going to have her first sampling of some baby oatmeal. I know she will spit most of it out and have that confused funny look on her face. Bath time has become a fun event with lots of kicking and laughing. Gianna has also starting to suck her thumb and fingers. She sucks her thumb mostly so it looks like that will be the finger of choice. I tried uploading a video of her in the bath to You Tube but I don't think it worked. Gianna had her 4 month check up and was in the 77% for height and 50% for head size and weight. She is 25" and 13lbs 10oz.

I did finally stop pumping 2 weeks ago. I am very proud of myself that I pumped for 4 months (every 4 hours) and was able to give Gianna all that great breast milk. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done and so I am very relieved it is over.

Mr F. still loves his job and continues to thrive and impress his bosses. He is an amazing Dad and is involved in all aspects if Gigi's life from diapers, to night feedings to play time. Gigi is crazy about her daddy.

My nephew Cayden (who has Cystic Fibrosis) is doing very well and really thriving. He shows no signs of having a disease at this point and we are so thankful for his continued health, for wonderful doctors and for great health insurance. Zachary just celebrated his 2nd birthday and is becoming quite the big boy.

Lastly, my only complaint for today is that I have still not lost this baby weight (8 pounds). I am so over even caring how I look I just want to wear my old clothes. I need my work clothes and don't want to wear these maternity pants. The hard thing is that my diet was so limited while I was pregnant and while pumping so now I want to eat all kinds of stuff. I am walking an hour or more a day and working hard to make healthy choices I am just so over this stage.

Here are some new pictures of my life:

A Different Kind Of Christmas

Christmas this year was very different for our family. My husband had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Christmas morning Gianna and I woke up and made some chicken soup for all the guys who were working with Mr. F. We figured it was a bummer for them to have to work so why not bring them a hot meal. Also, Gianna and I did not want to be home alone:) Okay so Gianna did not really know it was Christmas or that we were home alone. Bringing them all lunch really made me reflect and think about how blessed I am. I thought of all the men and women who were away from their families serving our country, about people who had lost loved one's recently and about my friends who were seperated from their families. I spent time praying for each of those people. It was a neat experience - I would have loved to have spent the day with my hubby but I am thankful for the lesson God taught me and that I was reminded of how blessed my life is.
