Zachary's First Haircut ~ 15 months old

Yesterday my nephew Zachary had his first haircut. My sister has been waiting to cut his hair because it is so cute. But after he was called a girl she knew it was time. As you can see Zachary did not like having his haircut. My mom and sister said the lady who cut his hair was incredible.
After Zachary got a sucker he was happier. This was the first lollipop he had ever had:)
The second sucker was also helpful!

I am happy to report he survived and will no longer be called a girl. Also after taking a nap and sweating a bit some of his curls returned.

An Arm, A Leg. An Elbow or A Knee

This week I felt the baby for the first time. Thursday night I felt a bubble going through my stomach. It suddenly occurred to me that that bubble feeling was my little girl. Then on Saturday day Frank and I were sitting on the couch and I could not tell if I was feeling her or if it was just my pulse in my stomach. I told Frank to feel my stomach and what do you know for the first time ever she gave us either a kick or some type of jab. Not sure of course if it was her arm, her leg, her knee or her elbow but something happened. We both could not believe that the first time she kicked we got to experience it together. I think those experiences are God's way of reminding us that he loves us and is longing to pursue us each day. What a gift!

Random Thoughts

So I have been sick with a cold since Friday. Being pregnant and sick is not fun. It has forced me to try some natural options. So two days ago I starting using a Neti Pot. Not sure if anyone saw the Oprah where Dr. Oz had a guest demonstrate it.

Well, it is pretty cool. You basically fill the pot with warm water and salt and then pour the liquid into one nostril and it comes out the other. It cleans out your sinus's which feels really good- especially when one nostril is clogged. The other thing I got is a cool air humidifier. I ran it all last night and when I woke up I did not feel nearly as congested and dry.

On another random note, we watched the movie "Into the Wild" the other night. We both thought the movie was really good. It's a story about someone who is dealing with pain from childhood and searching to find the meaning of life. Plus the cinematography was pretty incredible.

IT'S A....

GIRL!!!! I had some great pictures to post but somehow they did not copy over to my thumb drive like I planned. I will have to put them up later. Frank and I are super excited about our little bambina. Now on to figuring out her name. I can't decide wether we are going to tell people or not once we make our decision. Anyone have an opinion on this? I just don't like when people give you their negative opinions on your name choice. We had fun telling my parents so I will work on getting those pictures and try to post them this week.

What's Cookin' In There?

BOY OR GIRL ????

So today is a very exciting day for us because we are going to find out if we are having a boy or a girl. We don't go until later in the afternoon so I may not post anything until Monday. Sorry I am not much of a blogger on the weekends.

Of course the first question on everyone's mind is, "what are you hoping for?" Well, I have always thought I would love to have boys. I was tomboy all growing up and so being with boys is easy for me. But then I was noticing how incredibly active and busy my nephew Zachary is and I starting thinking it might be fun to have a girl. So now I don't care. I will be excited either way.

The second question I get is "do you have any names you like?" For those of you who do not know my husband is Italian. He comes from deep Italian roots with strong traditions. One of the important traditions that has been passed down for years is that the 1st son in the family names his first son after his father. So my husband was named after his grandfather. Therefor if we have a boy his name will be Salvatore but he will go by "Sam." At first I was really bothered by the fact that I had no choice. But now it does not bother me at all and I feel proud to be carrying on the tradition. So if we have a boy he will be named Sam and if it is a girl I have no idea. I am not much of a dreamer so I don't really have any names that stick out to me. Plus, I just figure if we find out we are having a boy then we won't need to think of girl names so why waste the time.

Welcome to Motherhood

This weekend I went and spent some time at my sister's house. I knew that Bubby (aka Zachary) was not feeling well and that he had already thrown up that day. When he woke up from his afternoon nap I went and got him out of bed. My sister felt his feet and noticed how hot he was. She said she needed to get some Tylenol in him to bring down his fever. As she got the Tylenol ready she saw a familiar look on his face know as the "I am going to puke face." Bubby proceeded to puke on me and all over the floor. It was a heart wrenching experience to see him so upset. I feel that I am now officially ready to begin my journey of motherhood. Zachary has pee'd, puked, and projectile vomited milk on me. Being around all my nieces and nephew's is good training for what is to come.

Below are some happier pictures of Zachary. He is now 15 months and 33 lbs. Yes, he is a big boy. He has a very large vocabulary for his age and my sister works very hard to teach him sign language. It take a lot of time and commitment to teach a child sign language but I think it makes for a happier baby because they can ask for what they want.

Zachary's (15 months) first fudgesicle. Sara (my sister) said afterwards he went straight into the bath and
the water was totally brown.
This weekend it was quite warm in San Diego so Zachary went for a dip in the pool.
Check out those nice board shorts.

Feeling a bit emotional

This weekend was the beggining of a big life change. My husband is working the graveyard shift. Saturday morning I was really sad knowing that he would leave at 4:00 p.m. and I would not seem him until the next morning. But because my husband is in tune with me he made plans for us to have breakfast together and walk on the Oceanside pier. We had a really great morning. When he left I tried with everything in me to not cry but the tears just flowed. I mean it's not only a change in work hours he is also in danger so that kind of adds to me being emotional.

I know some of it is just that I am sensitive but part of it is also that I am pregnant. My emotions are very close to the surface and I feel extra fragile lately. I know with time I will adjust but for now it just pretty much sucks. I am just one of those girls who loves being with her husband. He is my best friend and the person I look forward to seeing each day when I come home. Or at the least I like to know he is in bed beside me and that I can touch him.

I am incredibly thankful for the family I have around me. They are very supportive and have reached out to encourage me and support me through this transition. I have been with family the past two nights since being home alone does not sound very fun. I am not scared to be home alone or sleep alone just emotional.

We decided on a whim to go to a Padres game on Saturday. The game was fun espcially since we beat the dogers!!!! We sat up pretty high but as you can see the view was great. This is why we love Petco park.

My Sister, My Friend and Her Sister

So I am now 15 weeks pregnant. So far this process has been pretty awful. Today I have returned to work after a two week medical leave due to extreme and debilitating anxiety. I did everything I knew how to get it to go away but my doctor explained that its just pregnancy hormones and with time it will go away. He was right with a bit of help from modern medicine life is begining to return to some state of normality.

But that is not why I wrote this blog I am writing because my sister is finally letting me tell people that she is pregnant also. I am so excited! We are two and half weeks apart and it is so fun. Her due date is October 15th and mine is September 25th! It has already been fun to share together in the sickness and all that comes with pregnancy. The weird thing is that since this is her second she could have her baby either around the same time or before me. She had Zachary by c-section and will most likely do the same with baby #2 aka Peanut.

Now to make things even more interesting my good friend Chelsea is also pregnant. She is 5 1/2 weeks behind me and then her twin sister is 1 week behind her. It is so fun to all be sharing the experience of pregnancy and then motherhood together. I think it is all a very special gift from God.
